October 17, 2024 If we are indeed returning to an Apostolic Age, then St. Ignatius of Antioch is your man. Appointed by St. Peter himself Bishop of Antioch, Ignatius lived at a time when the Church was both persecuted and growing, another essential paradox of Christianity that we as 21st century believers would be wise to heed. Our poem of the day is also helpful, as we certainly need both the head and the heart to spread the redemptive message of the Gospel, a message in desperate need in our confused times. Have a blessed day! Gospel of the Day Luke 11:47-54 "Woe also to you scholars of the law! You have taken away the key to knowledge." Saint of the Day Saint Ignatius of Antioch Quote of the Day “Our task is not one of producing persuasive propaganda; Christianity shows its greatest strength when it is hated by the world." -Saint Ignatius of Antioch em of the Day "The Head and the Heart" by John Godfrey Saxe [Excerpt] The head is stately, calm, and wise, And bears a princely part; And down below in secret lies The warm, impulsive heart... Yet each is best when both unite To make the man complete; What were the heat without the light? The light, without the heat?
